Volkswagen India Unveils Golf GTI for the Indian Market with Pre-Bookings Opening May 5, 2025

Volkswagen India has officially announced the introduction of the iconic Golf GTI to the Indian market, marking a significant milestone for the brand. This will be the first time the legendary Golf GTI is available in India, with pre-bookings scheduled to open on May 5, 2025. The latest generation Golf GTI Mk 8.5 will be available in India as a Fully Built Unit (FBU), and Volkswagen will offer a limited allocation for customers eager to own this performance-focused hatchback.

The Golf GTI is powered by a formidable 265 PS engine, generating 370 Nm of torque. This impressive powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, offering both thrilling performance and everyday usability. This makes the Golf GTI an ideal choice for enthusiasts who seek high-performance driving while also valuing practicality.

Pre-bookings for the Golf GTI will be exclusively available through Volkswagen India’s official website, and the company has emphasized that the pre-booking window will be for a limited time, underscoring the limited availability of the model in the country.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Volkswagen India, expressed excitement about the launch, saying, “The Golf GTI is revered as one of the most iconic cars globally, and we are truly proud to offer customers in India the opportunity to own a piece of Volkswagen’s performance legacy. This model blends the thrill of driving with Volkswagen’s renowned engineering, and we are confident it will resonate with performance enthusiasts in India.”

The Golf GTI’s arrival in India is part of Volkswagen’s continued expansion of its product offerings in the country. Deliveries are expected to commence in June 2025, and the vehicle will be available through selected Volkswagen dealerships across India. With its limited allocation and high demand expected, the company has recommended that potential customers place their pre-bookings early to secure one of the few units available in the initial batch.

Volkswagen, which delivered approximately 4.8 million vehicles globally in 2024, including nearly 394,000 all-electric models, continues to strengthen its position as a leader in both performance and sustainability. The company operates in over 12 countries with manufacturing facilities across 28 locations worldwide and employs approximately 170,000 people.

This launch also aligns with Volkswagen’s overarching accelerate strategy. Through this strategy, the company aims to solidify its position as a leading brand in sustainable mobility while preserving its performance heritage. The introduction of the Golf GTI to India is not only a celebration of performance engineering but also a testament to Volkswagen’s commitment to delivering innovative and high-quality vehicles that cater to the needs of Indian consumers.
