Maruti Suzuki’s All-New Dzire becomes India’s first 5-star Bharat NCAP-rated sedan, sets a new safety benchmark

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has achieved a major milestone in automobile safety in India, as the All-New Dzire is now the first sedan in India to achieve a 5-star safety rating with the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). The accolade was graciously handed over by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways, demonstrating the Government’s effort to improve safety standards within the automobile landscape in India.

The 5-star rating makes the Dzire one of the highest-rated passenger vehicles, behind only the New Age Baleno, which has been rated at 4 stars by the Bharat NCAP.

Safety as Standard: A Commitment that is Refreshingly Bold

In a bold move towards safer mobility, Maruti Suzuki has committed to equipping all of its passenger vehicles, in all variants, with six airbags by year end. This includes a broad lineup that ranges from entry-level hatchbacks like the Alto K10 and Celerio to SUVs like the Grand Vitara and Brezza. As of now, ten Maruti models already offer six airbags as a standard feature.

Further reinforcing its leadership in safety innovation, Maruti Suzuki has equipped its entire portfolio of 18 models with Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP) across all variants—an industry-first initiative that precedes regulatory requirements.

Endorsement from the Top

Hon’ble Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari lauded the achievement, stating,

“It gives me immense pride to see Made-in-India mainstream cars achieving top-tier safety ratings under Bharat NCAP. Maruti Suzuki’s performance not only demonstrates engineering excellence but also sets a new precedent for mass-market safety in India. The initiative to standardize six airbags across all vehicle categories is a bold and commendable move.”

He further emphasized that such initiatives will likely inspire other manufacturers to follow suit and highlighted the shared responsibility of all road users in ensuring safety.

Words from the Leadership

After receiving the certificate, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited had these words of thanks:

“We are honored to receive this prestigious Bharat NCAP certification. We appreciate the initiative from Government of India for advancement of vehicle safety and share the commitment to advance vehicle safety with Maruti Suzuki.”We remain committed to offering products that meet both customer expectations and the highest safety standards.”

Mr. Takeuchi also confirmed the company’s roadmap:

“By the end of this year, all Maruti Suzuki vehicles will come with six airbags as standard. Coupled with ESP across all models, we now offer India’s widest portfolio of vehicles with advanced safety features.”
